Yayasan Pita Merah Muda Bali or better known as Bali Pink Ribbon Foundation (BPR) is proud to announce the return of its annual charity Bali Pink Ribbon Fun 5KM Walk. With the theme Pink & Fit, the walk is set for Saturday 19 October 2024 from 6.30 to 10.30AM at the beautiful Nusa Dua Beach Resort & Spa in Nusa Dua. This fund raising event supports the foundation’s breast cancer awareness education and screening work targeted to underprivileged women in Bali and surrounding islands. This year’s fund raising will be used to finance road shows and medical screening to extremely remote and rural areas, namely East Java and Nusa Tenggara.
Bali Pink Ribbon continues to foster positive change for the women and families of Bali. Through media campaigns, organised screenings and outreach programs they have lifted the awareness of breast cancer in Bali, even expanding its out-reach to Java and Nusa Tenggara.
The Bali Pink Ribbon Fun Walk and Run, which they have been doing since 2009, is held in in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Founder of the organisation, Gaye Warren, a breast cancer survivor herself, was inspired by the Pink Ribbon Walks found in the UK where she hails from, and thus started a similar event here in sunny Bali.
Set in the stunning resort beach and gardens, registration opens at 6.30AM with the walk starting at 7AM. The route is set out along the beautifully manicured gardens of Nusa Dua and along the beach looping back to the main arena where the festivities begin.
Comprised of a 5km fun walk, creativity is encouraged by prizes for best costume in pink and best group. The streets of Nusa Dua will be flooded with pink people, all for breast cancer awareness. After the walk, pink ribbon will be hung ceremoniously on the memorial line in memory of someone who has died of breast cancer. Other than the walk itself, there are plenty of things to do, health talk show, Zumba session, a raffle and auction for fun fundraising and live music.
“Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women of all ethnic groups and the number one killer of women, but if detected early and treated immediately, the chances of survival are incredibly high,” says Gaye Warren, Founder of Bali Pink Ribbon, “When detected at an early stage, there is more than 90% survival rate and with treatment, patients can live a normal life.”
